So it stands to reason that if you are going to be perverted you might as well get paid for it. Right? *Runs off to write fan fic smut and make millions a la 50 Shades*

So I was looking through my blog and a lot of people have reblogged my post about female characters in Science Fiction.

But someone who reblogged it decided it was… too judgmental. If you don’t want to look at pictures that judge things - stop looking at memes, but I digress.

Now what I think this meme does is take a basic comparison we have seen before, of Hermione vs. Bella, and expands on it. That comparison is meant to show how some characters are weaker and some are stronger when faced with great emotional distress and turmoil. So, I don’t mean weak as in shallowly thought out by the author, but weak as in weak willed as a person (for anyone who was going there.)

And yes there are people out there who handle things the way Bella handles losing Edward, but should be we feeding that behavior by aggrandizing it? Wouldn’t it be better for those young girls - I mean people to see strong FEMALE (rather than just male) characters face horrible odds with determination and heart rather than fall apart when their boyfriend dumps them - I mean when things get tough.

But ultimately we are talking about a MEME on the INTERNET comparing FICTIONAL CHARACTERS for ENTERTAINMENT. Don’t turn around and make that about how people shouldn’t be bashing other people’s emotional responses to situations. This is a debate about what fictional characters represent not a depiction of how people who have a hard time with something are pussies.

I say this as someone who *gasp* read and enjoyed the Twilight books back when the movies were just a twinkle in Stephenie Meyers’ eye. I also say this as someone who *gasp* recently faced a great loss and has been having a lot of emotional difficulty as a result. I love scifi, I love vampire books, and I love my mother may she rest in peace. And If I had even begun to think this picture was bashing people and not Twilight I wouldn’t have posted it.

Also, I want to know why someone would reblog a picture they don’t agree with or like?

At least, at least the person who inspired this little exploration into how my mind processes memes analytically also inspired the person whose blog I’ve linked, gavinsaurusrex.

Thank you and good afternoon.

This is really raw. I had half an hour in my hotel room this afternoon, so I wrote this as fast as I could for my blog, and then the Guardian asked, so I sent it to the Guardian, and an hour later it was up on their site. It’s an attempt to talk about Ray Bradbury today.

It starts…

Yesterday…
